This is a
probably the toughest
page to write. This is where I should
answer when someone asks questions like
"Who are you?" or "Who the heck do you
think you are!?" ;)
I really don't know where to
begin. So, let me just tell
you the usual stuff about where I live,
what I like, what I do for living and
so on.
I'm 38 (since April
18, 2007) ... I was born in the Philippines,
and spent most of my life there. I now
live in Columbia, Maryland. I came to
the US April 2002 as Filipino-US Immigrant
(Yeah,…and got my US
Citizenship too).
I
grew up in Cebu,
Philppines. Very lucky to have grown
up in place surrounded by beautiful
island beaches with pristine white sands,
and beautiful Filipina women that are
second to none. I graduated from Sacred
Heart School for Boys where I was an
academic scholar my entire elementary
and high school years. Again a very
lucky guy to have had Jesuit education
from the best boys school in the region,
and not have had to pay for it. Got
my Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering
at the Cebu Institute of Technology.
I'm the technical kind of guy...
Kinda addicted to solving problems,
constantly screaming "GIVE
ME SOMETHING TO TROUBLESHOOT!"
It's a craving that desperately needs
satisfaction. The bad thing about computers
is that they are addictive - My wife
thinks I spend too much time in front
of a computer (computer_time / wife_time
is a large positive intiger and ought
to be a fraction… so she says). I'm
planning to get another PC, but my wife
keeps saying that having four
computers around the house is enough…
I DON'T THINK SO. I got one in the basement
that's used as a Linux server (webserver,
FTP server, SAMBA, mail sever), one
desktop PC in the home office, one used for
a VoIP PBX Server project I am just starting on,
a laptop
so can work around the house, and I
forgot I also have an IPAQ that is also
wirelessly connected to my home network.
I still have more plans like getting
a new PC that will function as a media
center (record TV shows like Tivo, and
play my library of MP3s - legally obtained
MP3s) and hook it up to my home theater
system. I also would like to get another
unit to serve as my music production
station… interface my 6-string guitar
and bass, and record my own songs to
burn into CDs. A boy has got to have
his toys.
Speaking of music,
I prefer to listen to jazz and the retro
classics of the 70's and 80's. I used
the play the bass guitars in a band
during my college years. Wrote a few
songs too. Here are the links if you
want to check some of them out (crudely
recorded on video). - Afternoons Together
- Come Into My Life
My current job is in
the Healthcare Industry as a Senior Systems
Analyst (at the University
of Maryland Medical System), mainly
doing systems support and programming
work. Desk jobs like the one I have
tend to make you a little round in the
middle. That's why I debate with myself
a lot whether to go to the gym or hit
the couch.
After
work, you'll find me hanging
out with my family or with friends…
having a couple of drinks and cooking.
Okay,
I've already said too much, I'll stop
while I'm ahead. Drop me any kind of
feedback or comments at gerard_cabunoc@yahoo.com.
Thanks.
